Lock Baker has been creating art with his hands since a young age. Born in 1979 in Wahington DC, Locks family soon moved to Fairfield CT, where he spent most of his childhood. He attended Millbrook boarding school in upstate NY, where he focused on drawing, painting, and theater set design. Lock started Eastern Fabrications LLC after a TIG welding program at Lincoln Electric in Cleveland, OhioLock rode and raced mountain bikes during his time there. The study and maintenance of bicycles, especially the more complicated downhill race bikes, honed his skill in mechanics and understanding of two wheeled physics and geometry.
Lock next attended Connecticut College in New London, CT, where he focused on fine art and art history. He received a BA in fine art there, as well as refining his welding and fabrication skills. It was during college that Lock made the transition from mountain bikes to motorcycles. Lock moved into a small industrial space in Branford, CT soon after college, where he began motorcycle fabrication. After 4 years in the small shop, Lock was able to move into a larger facility a few miles away. Eastern Fabrications LLC is still a one man operation.
Bikes built at Eastern Fabrications, or E-fab for short, are almost completely hand made and can take up to 9 months to complete. Lock works with each client to determine the best combination of components for his or her budget, taste and performance requirements. A variety of finishes, materials, and treatments can be used to create a truly unique and personalized machine. In addition, Lock maintains an inventory of custom motorcycles currently for sale.
