Alejandro Diaz Ayala
From Peter Paul Reubens to comic book iconography, Alejandro Diaz Ayala employs an exotic melding of images that are mildly unnerving because they are juxtaposed with easeŃdespite the fact that they emerge from divergent centuries and sensibilities.
His palette is vivid and it’s not unusual to see a realistically depicted figure with what can only be termed an “exploding head” erupting with a kind of psychic ferocity. Diaz conveys a sense of past and present, as well as American and Mexican imagery delivered with a highly deft hand, rendering compelling images on canvas that are exciting and arresting.
