Alana McVerry was born and grew up in the north of England. She has a background in Anthropology and worked as a political researcher for a number of charities and think tanks. Having always had a strong interest in film and photography she moved out of political research to pursue these strands as a career, hoping to touch on some similar issues through a different medium.

Her first love is documentary and she has an MA in documentary film from the University of the Arts, London. It is the ability to delve into others’ experiences and other worlds that magnetises her to recording the real. Whilst primarily a filmmaker and photographer, she has sustained a love of writing and a passion for words, poetry and novels throughout. It is the love of documenting and exploring, whether through the camera, through voices or through the written word that drives her to continue. She lives and works in East London.
